Hook pattern
Contrarian
Counters conventional wisdom.
Tells the viewer the thing everyone says is wrong. Pattern interrupt — expectations break, attention spikes.
“Stop trying to wake up at 5am. It’s making you worse.”
When to use it
Go contrarian when there’s a piece of common advice in your niche you genuinely disagree with. The pattern-break — “everyone’s wrong about X” — spikes attention.
How to nail it
- Pick advice people actually believe, so the break lands.
- Mean it — fake hot takes read as bait.
- Follow with your reasoning fast; the payoff is the why.
Common mistake
Being contrarian about something nobody believes, or just to be edgy. The take has to be both surprising and true to you.
