Hook pattern
Story
Drops you mid-scene of a personal narrative.
Opens in medias res — “I was driving home when…”. Stories trigger different neural pathways and feel more shareable.
“So I’m in a coffee shop, and this guy walks up and asks me…”
When to use it
Use a story hook when your point lands better through experience than explanation. Dropping people mid-scene pulls them in before they decide to scroll.
How to nail it
- Start in the middle of the action, not the backstory.
- Make the first line feel like something’s already happening.
- Keep the stakes clear — why should they care how it ends?
Common mistake
Too much setup. “So a few years ago I was thinking about…” loses people. Drop them straight into the moment.
