Hook pattern

Tease

Promises a specific payoff if you stay till the end.

Opens a curiosity gap by naming something concrete the viewer gets later if they don’t scroll. Pure attention play.

Example
“Wait till the end — the trick at 0:45 changed everything for me.”

When to use it

Use a tease when the best part of your video isn’t at the start. You name the payoff up front so people stick around for it instead of scrolling past.

How to nail it

  • Name something concrete — “the trick at 0:45”, not “something crazy”.
  • Actually deliver the payoff, or you train people to ignore your hooks.
  • Keep the gap tight — promise one thing, not five.

Common mistake

Over-promising. A huge tease with a weak payoff gets the swipe and teaches the algorithm your hook is bait.
